Central Park East II is a progressive Community School in District 4. Our mission is to provide children in East Harlem and throughout New York City with an education that is both challenging and nurturing. By allowing children to develop at their own pace, and encouraging them to actively explore, we teach them to be critical and creative thinkers. We believe that all children are gifted readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and artists.

Community is the bedrock of CPEII. We encourage participation from our families, and emphasize to students that they have an active role to play in the school community and beyond. We believe this teaches children the importance of taking part in society as a whole. By engaging an education that makes a difference in their lives, they learn to make a difference in the world.

Corona Virus Update March 17, 2020

Good Day CPE II,

Below, you will find updated information in an official letter to families from the Chancellor.

I also want to remind you all that schools have been closed so that person to person contact can be limited, preventing the spread of the Coronavirus. Social distancing, or keeping away from as many people as possible, can limit the spread of the virus. It is important to note that the cdc says, based on what is currently known about the virus, spread from person-to-person happens most frequently among close contacts (within about 6 feet). This type of transmission occurs via respiratory droplets. Although transmission of novel coronavirus to persons from surfaces contaminated with the virus has not been documented, current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Try to get kids outside every day for walks but avoid public playground structures and close contact with other children. Have kids connect with their friends using technology. I am confident that working together, all will be well.
